Reading Old Handwriting in English and Latin: Practical Workshop
Are you using historic documents for local or family history? If you are grappling with reading old handwriting or reading Latin words and phrases in documents from the 16th century onwards, this practical, hands-on workshop at Dorset History Centre is for you!
With a mix of working solo and in pairs, Principal Archivist Claire Skinner will help you discover how to read common types of documents in both English and Latin (particularly from the 16th-18th centuries) and give you links to resources which will allow you to explore these topics in more depth.
This event is being held in support of Dorset Archives Trust, a charity that works to preserve and promote Dorset’s rich archival heritage. Its strapline is ‘Saving Dorset’s disappearing history’ and it undertakes this work by fundraising, holding events, supporting projects and promoting the value of archives. DAT works closely with the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester which holds archive collections dating back over 1000 years from across Bournemouth, Poole and wider Dorset.
