Lower Bockhampton is a small hamlet on the River Frome, home to the school where Thomas Hardy first attended as a young boy.
The Old School House is now a private home but immortalised in Under the Greenwood Tree where Fancy Day worked as a teacher.
The pretty hamlet has plentiful walks one can embark on either to Stinsford and Dorchester to the west or to Yellowham Wood and Puddletown Forest to the east.
