Wear Your Wings With Pride
Wear Your Wings With Pride was created by Matt Wilding response to a moment of quiet prejudice, when he overheard an earlier piece dismissed simply for being ‘gay’. Rather than shrink, he chose to rise.
This sculptural, wearable artwork transforms that hurt into power – a bold pair of wings that celebrate queer identity, resilience, and the courage to take up space. Inviting viewers to step in and stand tall, it turns a slur into a statement of pride.
About The Artist:
Matt is a sculptural quilter whose work transforms fabric into bold, three dimensional forms that claim space with intention. Drawing on lived experience, queer identity, and a commitment to resilience, his practice turns moments of challenge into creative fuel. Working instinctively with value, contrast, and structure, he builds pieces that rise from the surface – works that lift, unfurl, and insist on being seen. Through exhibitions, workshops, and community engagement, Matt champions courage, authenticity, and the power of making art that stands proudly in its own shape.
