Visible Women Photographic Exhibition
Lucy Sewill is an acclaimed photographer whose dynamic career spans portraiture and figurative fine art. Her work is held in the National Portrait Gallery, and she has exhibited and been published internationally. Known for her striking portraits, Lucy has photographed many of the world’s most recognisable faces, from rock stars and actors to royals and politicians.
In response to the persistent lack of parity and representation for women in the acting and entertainment industries—and her own experience of so often being the only woman in the room — Lucy launched her Visible Women project, a powerful body of work dedicated to making women seen.
The Collection
After nearly two decades of photographing cultural icons and leading public figures, Lucy became increasingly aware of the underrepresentation of women within her own body of work. This realisation led to the creation of Visible Women, a portrait series inspired by the Acting Your Age campaign founded by Nicky Clark.
The women featured in these portraits are united by a shared demand for equality and for authentic representation within their profession. The series responds to well-documented gender and age inequalities in the acting and entertainment industries, where opportunities for women diminish sharply by midlife and the lifelong stories of women remain underrepresented on stage and screen.
