A guided tour of Maiden Castle to explore its origins, myths and legends with Gary Biltcliffe, author of ‘The Spirit of Portland‘.
Tour the neolithic enclosure and the remains of a Roman temple. Learn about the mysterious Iron Age tribe called the Durotriges who allegedly re-fortified the monument, moving thousands of tons of earth. Gary will interpret some of the mysteries of the site and its folklore.
Gary Biltcliffe is a researcher and investigator of ancient sites, earth mysteries and lost knowledge. He has appeared on radio and television and has lectured widely in the UK and North America. Gary has also led International groups around Britain’s sacred sites and written articles for journals and magazines. He moved to Dorset in 1993 and his research of the county’s ancient history culminated in his first publication The Spirit of Portland, Revelations of a Sacred Isle in 2009.
Home of Hillforts & Henges is an exciting new event from 21st to 31st July that will celebrate Dorchester’s neolithic and iron age landscape, rich in earthworks and the people that have lived here for over 6,000 years.
The event is part of the National CBA Festival of Archaeology 2022 and activities will take place at multiple locations across the town.
