Six Men of Dorset – Tolpuddle Martyrs – New Hardy Players
‘We were uniting together to preserve ourselves, our wives and our children from utter degradation and poverty’ – George Loveless
Following 6 sell-out performances in June and an appearance at the Tolpuddle Festival, the ‘Six Men of Dorset’ is back by public demand with 3 additional shows in September!
The gripping drama of the struggles of six Dorset farm labourers to earn a living wage became a national cause celebre in 1834, and still resonates today.
The New Hardy Players perform the first part of the story in the Corn Exchange [the venue for the original 1934 production], and then lead the audience up High West Street to the Historic Courtroom in the Shire Hall Museum where the infamous Trial took place. Featuring traditional hymns and folksongs, live music and specially filmed sequences, this is The New Hardy Players’ most ambitious production to date.
Under Tim Laycock and Emma Hill’s direction, this is guaranteed to be a spine-chilling, moving and immersive experience. ‘Six Men of Dorset’ is a co-production with Dorchester Arts and Shire Hall Museum.
Tickets available from 25th July online, from the Dorchester Arts Box Office in the Corn Exchange, or by contacting 01305 266926.
