Quiet Opening
Explore the Museum and take part in drop-in activities during our Quiet Openings.
These Quiet Openings run from 10am – 12noon on the first Saturday of the month (excluding August). No booking is required, and standard admission charges apply.
During these sessions, the large screens in the galleries will be turned off, and where possible, lights will be low. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help with any questions and there will also be sensory activities in the Learning Centre for visitors to dip into should they wish to.
Whilst these openings are especially suitable for visitors with autism and other sensory conditions, all visitors who would like to visit the Museum in a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere are welcome.
Visitors should note that some displays and interpretive panels may be switched off during this time, but those that normally have sound will still be accessible with captions.
At 12:00noon, the Museum will return to regular operation with full function of displays, however Quiet Opening visitors are welcome to stay in the Museum for as long as they like.
Usual admission charges apply. No need to book.
Please visit the Museum’s Accessibility page to prepare for your visit. If you have any questions, you can email us at enquiries@dorsetmuseum.org
