As part of the 2023 Heritage Open Day programme, Dorchester Arts are delighted to present a free concert featuring a selection of piano music and songs by members of the Smith family, performed by Clara Pears, Gareth Jones and Richard Hall.
With this year’s theme being ‘Creativity Unwrapped’, what could be more appropriate than exploring the largely forgotten works of some local composers?
The Smiths were leading musicians in 19th Century Dorchester but the best-known is Sydney, who was born just across the road from the Corn Exchange in South Street in 1839. He trained at the highly prestigious Leipzig Conservatory and earned a national reputation as a teacher and composer.
Entry is free and no booking required.
