Maritime Archaeology (Day School)
Dorchester Association presents a half-day event exploring maritime history and archaeology. We will be looking at the recording and protection of sites, and what is under the sea in our area. The wrecks show how important trade was and what was being traded, so the importance of harbours will be discussed.
The topics and speakers include:
- The new marine Historic Environment Record, Hefin Meara, Historic England
- Heritage Crime, Paul Jeffery, Historic England
- The Earl of Abergavenny, a Dorset Scheduled site, Terry Newman, Historic England
- Salcombe’s Mystery Wreck, Dave Parham, Bournemouth University
- A Medieval Wreck, Tom Cousins, Bournemouth University
- Dorset Harbours in the 15th Century, Mark Forrest
- Other speakers may be announced in due course.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.
Doors open for registration at 9.30am. Talks begin at 10am.
