From Census to School: Did My Ancestor Really Attend School and Which One Was It?
A helpful talk on genealogy and family history by experienced researcher, Val Brenton. This talk will explain how the law regarding school attendance changed and what entries on the 19th-20th century census returns might mean. Suggestions will be given as to how to identify which school your ancestor may have attended and what records may still exist to help you add a variety of local and personal details to a family history.
This talk is being given in aid of Dorset Archives Trust, a charity that works to preserve and promote Dorset’s rich archival heritage. Its strapline is ‘Saving Dorset’s disappearing history’ and it undertakes this work by fundraising, holding events, supporting projects and promoting the value of archives. DAT works closely with the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester which holds archive collections dating back over 1000 years from across Bournemouth, Poole and wider Dorset.
