Dorchester Piano Quartet
Suk . . . . . Andante from Piano Quartet in A minor, Op.1
Dvorak . . . Piano Quartet in E flat major, Op.87
Suk dedicated his fine early piano quartet to his teacher and father-in-law, Dvorak.
A letter from Dvorak to a friend described the progress of Dvorak’s second piano quartet as follows: ‘I have three movements completely ready and the finale will be finished in several days. It’s going unexpectedly easily, and melodies are coming to me in droves!’ The quartet is an example of
the composer’s mature style, in which he fluently mixed the innovative with the well-established.
