Create your own Kitchen Garden
Filled with wonderful flavours, colours, fragrances and wildlife. This course is designed for people who have some experience growing but want to improve skills for a healthy and productive garden.
This course is £110 per person which includes drinks, a vegetarian garden lunch and seedlings to take home.
Course Components Include:
Staples of flavour, colour and fragrance:
We will walk around the kitchen garden tasting and talking about all the best plants to have, plus winter crops to grow for the kitchen garden during a long cold season.
We will also talk about the principles of planning a kitchen garden using the site as an example. We will discuss each important component of a self-sufficient, healthy and productive garden.
Foundation of an abundant and healthy kitchen garden:
How to start a No Dig garden and how to look after your soil.
How to succeed in compost making with a simple concept.
Improving your propagation skills:
Sowing techniques and materials for different seeds and best practice to test and trial to improve the scale and health of your seedlings with minimum input. We will have a look at setting up propagation techniques in the greenhouse.
Weeds and slugs control:
Understanding weeds, slugs and snails so that you will be ahead before weeds take over and slugs attack you seedlings.
A year full of food for both body and soul:
We will practice planning a kitchen garden for the coming year and how to provide garden delights for food and for your living space all year round. ChiChi will show you all her favourite ‘must grow’ plants and share tips to create a sowing and planting plan. This will ensure a whole garden of vegetables and cut flowers plus herbs, salads, dahlias and sweet peas!
The day will be rounded off with a Q&A. ChiChi will answer and discuss all the questions you might have and also discuss the future support for creating your own healthy Kitchen Garden.
After your course you will be free to explore the rest of Sculpture by the Lakes until 5pm. Spaces are Limited to 8 people per course.
