Bunting Workshop
Come along to our workshop on the 17th April and make some bunting decorations for this year’s VE Day 80th anniversary celebration. Don’t restrict yourself to red, white & blue! Why not use your imagination and experiment with different colours and patterns.
Suitable for adults and children over 6 years old, this promises to be a fun and creative workshop, with no skills necessary and all materials provided.
Please feel free to bring in any fabric offcuts or trimmings that you may have at home.
In keeping with the spirit of VE Day celebrations, a drink and a slice of homemade cake from our lovely café is included in the cost of the workshop!
Historically, bunting goes back centuries, with its roots apparently being from nautical traditions, when sailors would adorn their boats with flags to celebrate victories and special celebrations. Interestingly, the word seems to originate from the name of the lightweight wool fabric that was used for the flags- ‘buntine’.
Bunting has played a role in celebrating many significant events, including the end of WW II, when it was used in community events and street parties across the nation to celebrate the end of the war.
