Top O Town as it is known locally, was the junction of the main North South and east west routes prior to the building of the by-pass.
Notable features are the statue of Thomas Hardy arguably Dorchester’s most famous resident; the tree lined Colliton Walks along the top of the former Roman town defences and leading to the Roman Town House in Colliton Park; and the remains of the Roman wall to the south as you take the short walk towards the Borough Gardens.
Nearby is the striking former barracks gatehouse and home to the The Keep Military Museum, celebrating the Devon and Dorset Regiment.
