Trace the footsteps of 19th century Dorchester-born doctor Sir Frederick Treves, learning about his life and accomplishments as you go. Treves was famous for befriending Joseph Merrick (The Elephant Man) and performing a lifesaving operation on King Edward VII.
A little under 3 miles long the trail takes around a suggested hour to explore. Offering an easy route, there are places to buy refreshments and public toilets along the way. Its aim is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the advantages of active exercise, as well as learn about one of Dorset’s most famous residents.
Celebrating nearly 200 years of free healthcare for the people of Dorset, the trail/route and this map has been developed by a group of students from Bournemouth University, with the support of Dorset History Centre.
