The opening of a mega palatial play park at The Great Field in Poundbury, Dorchester has been eagerly anticipated by local children for months as they have watched the huge play structures being installed.
Along with many excited children from Prince of Wales First School and Damers First School, the park was officially opened by Prince Charles himself on Friday 6th May 2022.
The unique design of the park is based on iconic Poundbury itself, a settlement designed by Prince Charles and built on the Duchy Estate. Achitectural features from around Poundbury have been replicated within the park to make incredible play towers and structures.
See if you can spot The Butter Cross, Brownsword Hall and another recognisable building locally known as The Whistling Witch!
It is a park for all ages of children.
For your children there are small swings, a wooden horse and carriage to ride on and the Brownsword Hall, a low play structure with seating underneath and a shallow slide that is perfect for small children.
For older children there are steep climbs up tall play structures and big, whizzy tunnel slides. There is a climbing wall, bouncy tyres and high ropes course.
There is even a water play area complete with pumps and damns.
Coming soon: The park will be further improved with an accessible roundabout.
Next to the park you will find the PIP café which is great for lunches, coffees, cakes and ice creams. The café also has two disabled toilets accessible to the public and a water bottle refill tap.
Free parking can be found close to the park on Dukes Avenue and also opposite the Doctors Surgery on St Johns Way.
