South Walks, runs east from the southern end of South Street along the line of the former Roman town defences and is an avenue of mature Horse Chestnut Trees.
To the west is the Lutyens inspired town war memorial, commemorating the fallen from two world wars and other conflicts. This is the site of the annual town remembrance each November. Look for the information board about the first world war and Dorchester.
To the east are the three statues by Dame Elizabeth Frink – The Dorset Martyrs – commemorating those executed near this place for their religion.
