One of two stations serving the town of Dorchester in Dorset, Dorchester West Railway Station sees regular service by Great Western Railway along the Heart of Wessex Line between Castle Cary and Weymouth.
Monday through Saturday trains from Dorchester West depart southbound for Weymouth and northbound for Bristol Temple Meads eight times daily. On Sundays, service drops to five trains each direction, with some trains extending to and from Gloucester. Additionally, on Saturdays in late May through early September, select South Western Railway services between Weymouth and London Waterloo call at Dorchester West.
Station facilities at Dorchester West are sparser than at the station’s close cousin; the station is unstaffed and tickets must be purchased ahead of time or from a train guard on board.
The station has a car park and bicycle stands available for customer use. The southbound platform is accessible via ramp, but the northbound platform has only stepped access. Platform 1 has a waiting shelter; both platforms have help points and bench seating available.
