Carols in the Gardens 2024
Nothing will get you in the mood for Christmas quite like an evening of Christmas classics!
Join us for Carols in the Gardens on Thursday 19th December in Dorchester’s Borough Gardens.
With accompaniments by Durnovaria Silver Band and Encore Singers, you can’t miss out on this musical tradition!
This year, we’d love everyone to have a go at making their own lantern from recycled materials so we can have a beautiful, festive light display. Find out how to make your own lantern at home below…
Lantern Crafting Materials
• Colourful tissue paper
• LED tealight
• PVA glue
• Sturdy scissors to cut the top off the bottles
• Pipe cleaners
• Clear 2 litre plastic bottle
How to Make a Lantern
1. Wash the bottle and cut off the tapered tops.
2. Plan your Christmassy design.
3. Cut the tissue paper into shapes to make your design and stick them to the inside wall of the dry bottles using glue.
4. Optional: Decorate on top of the tissue paper using paint and/or marker pens
5. Punch holes into the upper lip of the cut bottles and thread the pipe cleaners through to make a handle
6. Place the LED tealight inside the lantern and admire your creation!
