Explore The Great Park on The Great Field
Where better to play the day away than an incredible, state of the art park?!
The Great Park on The Great Field is another fantastic place for children and families to spend time in Dorchester. The unique design of the park is based on King Charles III’s iconic Poundbury development.
It is suitable for all ages with a variety of different equipment. For younger children, there are small swings, a wooden horse and carriage to ride on and the Brownsword Hall, a low play structure with seating underneath as well as a shallow slide. For older children, there are steep climbs up tall play structures and big tunnel slides. There is a climbing wall, bouncy tyres, and high ropes course and even a water play area with pumps and damns.
Pavilion in the Park café sits next to the park. PIPs is great for lunches, coffees, cakes and ice creams and the café also has two disabled toilets accessible to the public and a water bottle refill tap. Find free parking in Poundbury and around the Great Field.
Go crazy for The Jabberwock & Other Nonsense!
What’s a Day of Play without an actual play? Dorchester Arts has lots of outdoor performances over the Summer at Maumbury Rings, Dorchester’s very own neolithic ampitheatre.
On Wednesday 23rd August, head down and enjoy an engaging performance from Calf 2 Cow…
“Beware the Jabberwock! The jaws that bite, The claws that catch! Run for your life! Save yourself! AHHH!
The village of Pokeytin is under threat. Their crops and cows disappear in the night. Mrs Dodos’ washing has been pinched from the line and Mr Walrus can’t find a single oyster! Who is to blame? Why the Jabberwocky of course! Calf 2 Cow present this hilarious new adaption of Lewis Carrol’s (Alice in Wonderland) famous poem The Jabberwocky. Join them as they tell the tale of our young hero from Pokeytin, armed with their vorpal sword, brave the journey to take on the fierce Jabberwock, knock his head off and save the land! Huzzah!”
Make sure to bring a picnic, a blanket/seats, and everything you need for an evening in the sun!
